Sydney FC’s Alex Brosque is on his way to Oman after being added to the Socceroos squad in a great reward for his brilliant form this season.
Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek called up the attacker as replacement for Josh Kennedy who has a slight back injury, and added Shane Lowry to his squad for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2011 Qualifier in Muscat, Oman on Saturday. [Read more]

Rovers will be Sydney’s newest team

THE new A-League club in western Sydney will be provisionally known as “Sydney Rovers” after Football Federation Australia and the club’s chairman, Ian Rowden, confirmed the news that controversially emerged last week.
Rowden has revealed he asked the game’s governing body to register the name – as well as a logo and colours – with IP Australia, the federal agency in charge of granting rights in patents, trademarks and designs. [Read more]
West Australian Lowry named in Socceroos

Western-Australian born Shane Lowry has received his first call-up for the Socceroos for the upcoming international friendly match against the Netherlands in Sydney and the AFC Asian Cup Qualifier against Oman in Melbourne.
Lowry, who is contracted to Aston Villa but currently on-loan to Plymouth Argyle FC, recently chose to pursue his international football career future with Australia having played eight internationals for the Republic of Ireland at U-17 & U21 level. [Read more]
Western Sydney A-League team confirmed for 2011

Sydney will have a second A-League team but not until 2011.
Football Federation Australia (FFA) today announced that the 12th team in the Hyundai A-League would be based in western Sydney.
FFA CEO, Ben Buckley, said that FFA will award a license to a group chaired by Saatchi & Saatchi Executive Chairman and former Young Socceroo Ian Rowden. [Read more]
Cahill to miss Korean clash

Midfielder Tim Cahill and captain Lucas Neill do not feature in Pim Verbeek’s 24-man Socceroo squad for the upcoming international friendly match against the Korea Republic in Seoul on September 5.
Cahill has been given a break from international duties by Verbeek while doubts have been raised over the fitness of Neill who has had an extended off-season and remains clubless. [Read more]

Without a formal Pre-Season Cup competition this year, the Hyundai A-League clubs have been very creative with their choice of opposition for friendly matches ranging from the local state league through to English Premier League teams.
