A discovery of unexpected phenomena in neighbouring galaxies by a team at the University of Western Sydney may also help to explain a long-standing mystery in astronomy.
Associate Professor Miroslav Filipovic, from the UWS School of Computing and Mathematics, has lead a team of Australian and American scientists who have found a new class of object which they call ’super planetary nebulae’. [Read more]

It’s the other side of Darling Harbour.
No tourists, not many at least. Late-night sounds drift on the sea breeze as the heart of Sydney’s exhibition and entertainment precinct slows to a barely perceptible pulse.
The noise and colour of another hectic Saturday is only hours away, but while the moon glows over the deserted pavements and the winter chill hangs in the air there is a relative quiet. The man-made structures of the exhibition centre and a carnival ferris wheel tower over the unpopulated open spaces while flags flutter listlessly as if in fitful sleep.
